Woolly Writer Winner Revealed

Woolly Writer Winner Revealed

Drum roll please, it’s time to announce our champion! Thank you to each and every one of you who entered – we were inundated with amazing stories and rhythmic poems, and are blown away by our very talented readers. We’d like to congratulate Elin Davies for her very emotive and heartfelt story. Fun fact about Elin, she sang Meghan Markle down the aisle! We asked her all about her crafting (and singing!) hobbies…

“I’ve always wanted to try my hand at writing, and the Woolly Writer opening sentence captured my imagination straight away. You’ve inspired me now to keep at it, so maybe I’ll take a notepad and pen everywhere, as well as my craft bag! I’m a singer by trade and I take my knitting with me to all my concerts, it’s great for whiling away the time in rehearsals or in hotel rooms. I had my knitting needles confiscated at the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 London Paralympics where an over-zealous soldier decided they were too dangerous to be allowed into the stadium!

“I take my needles when I know I’ll be on tour for a chunk of time, so my little knitting bag has been to the states, China, Greece, Malta, Turkey, not to mention all of Europe! It’s a great way of passing time during rehearsals – as a soloist I’m often sat waiting for hours between my songs so it keeps me from being bored but means I can keep alert and listen in at the same time. At the royal wedding I was given a room in the cloisters to get changed and do my makeup – I took up my knitting in between being ready and the start of the service. I find it distracts me sufficiently and brings my breathing back to normal if I’m nervous! I didn’t get to meet Meghan which was a shame as I’m a big Suits fan, but she looked up as she passed me and smiled, and that was enough for me to feel I was doing a good job. I met Harry at the start – he was absolutely lovely, and seemed like any normal groom on his big day!”
